I think that with the awful weather I need to go back to hot packed lunches rather than my summer salads so this is perfectly timed.

HHelenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15094410176291432235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441453940675345105.post-12806910524038333862008-05-25T12:05:00.000-04:002008-05-25T12:05:00.000-04:00Deborah- How sad your husband doesn't like curry!U...Deborah- How sad your husband doesn't like curry!

UKcyclist- I used a package of red lentils to make this. And although I've only found a stone once in my lentils, it's usually a good idea to check just to make sure. I also found that my red lentils did indeed need to be rinsed 3 times before the water stayed clear.

Lunch- Thanks so much for explaning the seeds to me!

Abby- Dal is a great comfort food and this was one of the best Dal's I've had! In UK at least these are more often packaged under the name red lentils. We also get a variety labelled brown lentils that are whole, not split; when split the seeds inside the casing aren't the same as masoor dal.
The advice in the book to pick lentils over for stones and triple rinsing harks back to the poorer quality lentils I used to get in the 1970s. Haven't seen a stone in a pack of lentils in years, and one simple rinse gets any small amount of dust out.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441453940675345105.post-41581650471408599582008-05-22T13:02:00.000-04:002008-05-22T13:02:00.000-04:00I think I would really enjoy this cookbook, but my...I think I would really enjoy this cookbook, but my husband is not a curry fan, so he wouldn't love it so much...

This does sound fantastic!Deborahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11741861711308777389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441453940675345105.post-8648499595532531402008-05-22T10:48:00.000-04:002008-05-22T10:48:00.000-04:00Courtney- If I'd read your post a couple days earl...Courtney- If I'd read your post a couple days earlier I would have tried your ghee! And the Indian grocery I used is on 15 mile, by Walmart (East of Whole Foods).

Lisarene- Thanks for the good wishes! I'm doing great. This is not one of the soup like ones. And the flavors are even better as leftovers. And that's a brilliant idea to keep a list of cookbooks you want. Some are very thin and soup-like but this one has some "umph" to it and vegetarian as well!

Great cookbook recommendations, I'm keeping a list. I'm planning on suggesting my family buy me cookbooks for future birthdays, Christmas, etc., something I would really like for a change :)LisaRenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17033748967210196808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441453940675345105.post-67964292982504232932008-05-21T23:33:00.000-04:002008-05-21T23:33:00.000-04:00As a general rule Indian food scares me, but this ...As a general rule Indian food scares me, but this looks delicious.
